Bone Deep: When Mori Met Reyes and Something Snapped

Starring
Juan_Reyes: I have created the private room #Yoshihiro_Mori_vs_Juan_Reyes.
Juan_Reyes: I have invited @Yoshihiro_Mori to join #Yoshihiro_Mori_vs_Juan_Reyes.
Juan_Reyes: The Octagon cage is regulation size and in surprisingly decent shape at this unlicensed sports venue. Being less formal, they allow guys from different weight classes to compete, and tonight I’m taking on a 19 year old, 177 lb, 6 ft even Japanese fighter named Yoshihiro Mori in an MMA competition. So tonight it’s me, Juan Reyes, weighing in at 165 lbs, standing 5 ft 8 in tall, and being 19 years old against Mori. So Hispanic versus Japanese. The crowd is large and boisterous, and ready for some action. I enter the cage first, wearing black MMA style shorts and 4 oz white MMA fingerless gloves. I get checked over, my mouth guard gets inserted, and then I move to myside of the cage and bounce on my feet, shadow boxing as I weight for this Mori guy.

Yoshihiro_Mori: I arrive in the cage soon after you, standing at 6' and 176lbs I am quite a bit bigger than you are, but you already have a vicious reputation. So I am not going to underestimate you at all. Wearing my usual black and gold skin-tight MMA shorts and matching 4 oz gloves, I bounce on the balls of my size 11s as I warm up and look you up and down. You look very unassuming, and that's very dangerous. Being a more cautious and stoic fighter, I don't say much other than giving you a polite nod of acknowledgement and head to the center of the ring to meet you. Extending my left for a glove tap before pulling back into my stance. Left foot in front, and right foot 45 degrees to the back, my left hand out and in front of me near my torso level, and my right up high guarding my jaw. With my weight spread evenly between my feet, I stare you down as I wait for the match to start.
Yoshihiro_Mori:
Juan_Reyes: I now move to meet this bigger man in the cage centre. I form an orthodox stance similar to his, except my left glove is raised somewhat higher. I stare at his face, it’s almost hypnotic to watch him moments before the fight starts. And then it happens. DING!!!!!!!!! And the ref shouts FIGHT!!!!!!!!! So I quickly extend my left glove to see if he wants to tap, and the retract it quickly. I begin to bounce lightly on the balls of my feet, and bob erratically from side to side, twitching my left shoulder to feint a jab, then raise my right foot to feint a kick but put the foot back down, all to gauge his reactions. I am fighting my latino nature not to charge in throwing punches until I feel my opponent out some. What's he gonna do....this Japanese kickboxer come MMA fighter....
Yoshihiro_Mori: I watched as you started to move around erratically as soon as the match began. I'm the exact opposite, unmoving but focused, keeping my eyes on your every motion. I could tell that you started to get impatient as you moved around, and with my striking experience, I'm able to see through your feints for the jab and kick. I completely ignore your feinted jab, but as you pull your right foot back before you land it back down, I strike like a coiled python. Pushing off on my hind right leg and shooting my left out in a quick and nasty calf kick, looking to slice the inside of your left calf with my left shin while you're still on one leg. Then landing my left foot just behind your left heel in an almost horizontal position to block your left from moving back. I follow up with a solid left hook aimed at your jaw, looking to hit or at least knock your guard aside, before finishing off with a nasty right cross aimed at your nose.
Juan_Reyes: Your not moving much, and then suddenly the action starts. As I start to lower my right foot back down, your left foot kicks out towards my left calf, and being on one leg, there isn’t much I can do to move my left standing leg out of harms way. Your shin hits my calf muscle, and the pain shoots up my leg. Then landing your foot lands just behind my heel, almost tripping me up. I stay up right, and shoot out my right forearm to parry your left hook, and then slip my head to my right slightly as your right cross comes in. It avoids my nose but strikes my left check, snapping my head back. It’s a good punch, but I keep my wits about me, and then stay in the pocket, quickly trying to counter by throwing a left hook over your right shoulder towards your jaw, hoping to land before your guard comes back fully, and then moving fast, swing my left leg free of your left leg, as I go for a short right uppercut towards your floating ribs….crowd is now loud and boisterous at the as the action starts.
Yoshihiro_Mori: I see you eat my low kick and stay in the pocket after parrying my first punch and taking the second on your cheek. And you counter back just as I expected, throwing a left hook over my right shoulder, trying to hit me on the jaw. But I start to pull back and lean back right away after my cross landed, to create distance, and at the same time I push my right elbow up under your left to send your hook right over my head as I lean back. Then, as I move even further back, I start to pivot on my leading left foot as the uppercut comes to have it glance off my back as I lean down further and swing my right heel up in a nasty spinning hook kick aimed right at your completely exposed temple.
Juan_Reyes: This guy uses his right elbow to deflect my left arm upwards, causing the hook to go over his head, and then my right uppercut glances off his back as he pivots on his leading left foot. I realise he is leaning down further, but my uppercut has thrown me forward and off balance, I can't block it, so the only thing I can do is rotate my head to my right and slightly down to mitigate the power of the spinning hook kick, and manage to turn what could have been a KO blow into a glancing blow. Even so, it's a nasty blow, but again I absorb it and I use this rightward movement to pivot on my right foot, and attempt to send a left spinning back kick towards his solar plexus region in retaliation.
Yoshihiro_Mori: I wasn't hoping for a very early KO, but I was not expecting you to be able to mitigate most of the power from my spinning hook kick either. So when I finished my kick and landed my left back down, my body came back up just as I usually would. Only for my solar plexus to be met directly by your heel in a nasty spinning back kick. Not expecting it at all, your heel hit so fast that I had no time to even flex, allowing your heel to dig deep into my solar plexus to push most of the air out in one go. "Guah!" I let out a glottal groan as my body stumbles back several steps, obviously stunned and very much winded as I bend over from the pain, trying to catch what little breath I could back as I staggered away from you.
Juan_Reyes: It’s only a minute into the round and my light brown skin is already glistening with sweat, sweat from exertion, sweat from getting hurt by this bigger Japanese fighter, and sweat from pure adrenaline. FUCK YEAH!!!!!!! Feeling my heel sink into this guy’s midsection feels soooooo good, and it feels even better to see you backing off me as my foot comes to the ground and I turn back to square off. I know your pain will begin to dissipate and I only have a narrow window to pummel you even more. I start to advance, moving left and right to herd you towards the cage wall, my gloves up and ready. Seeing you bent over some and gasping for air, your head lowered and potentially vulnerable, I decide to end the sequence with a question mark kick. I drop my lead hand slightly and lift my lead left knee, angling my foot down toward your side to sell the feint of a low body kick. Hoping your guard naturally drops to protect your winded midsection, I violently snap my hip and whip my leg upward in a curved, hooking motion. My foot arcs sharply up from your body line in a trajectory, trying to bypass your guard and attempt to crash my shin violently into the side of your lowered head.
Yoshihiro_Mori: I'm obviously hurt, and you take full advantage of that fact, herding me back towards the cage fence by moving left and right to block off my attempts at circling out. Then, as I feel the cage fast approaching behind me, I see you attack once again, this time with what looks like a roundhouse kick towards my already guarded torso. Why would you attack my torso when I'm already guarding it, unless your true target is something else? Realizing that your target is elsewhere, I stay alert and watch your hip and leg carefully, only to catch the hint of your pivot for your question mark kick. But with my current injured state, it's nearly impossible to get my guard up in time. So I only have one unglorious option: ducking down and to my right as your kick came to just barely have your shin skim my hair. And just as your leg sailed over my head, I pushed in towards you as fast as I could to try and snag your waist between my arms, keeping my aching abs tight against your back, not only to protect it, but to also give it time to recover.
Juan_Reyes: My question mark kick does not fool you, even in your current state of hurt, which tells me you are the best kickboxer I have ever faced. My shin simply sails over your head, brushing your crop of dark hair as it misses the true target. And for a second, I am vulnerable, and most importantly, my back is vulnerable as you advance forward rapidly and wrap your arms around my waist, and suddenly this changes into a grappling competition. Your sweaty chest merges and presses in tight on my back, I try to grasp your wrists, wanting to keep your hands from moving upwards, and at the same time bring my right foot forward and then try to swing my foot backwards, trying to drive my heel into your right shin.
Yoshihiro_Mori: As you struggled to control my arms and prevent them from moving further up, it gave me the much-needed time for my abs to recover a bit. And by the time I see you swinging your right foot forward, my kyokushin-trained abs have mostly recovered, along with my breath. And knowing that you're trying to kick my shin, I go with the flow by stepping my right foot behind my left foot as you swing your right foot forward. Then, as you swung it back into thin air, throwing your balance off, I kicked my left leg upwards against your left as I used my arms around your waist to pull you up over my hips as my fulcrum for a nasty Harai goshi from the back position. Not only looking to slam you down on your back, but also to come down on top of you with my weight at the same time in side control.
Juan_Reyes: I realize, too late, that my attempted heel kick was a bad mistake, as it presented you with an opportunity of moving on me when I'm on one leg. WOOOSH! My left leg comes out from under me, and my balance is gone, and you can use your hips as a fulcrum to throw me onto the mat, landing me on my back hard. It's a move that causes disorientation, and feels humiliating as the sound of the crowd roars in your ears. I feel a sharp pain in my back from the SLAM. and now feel your chest pressed against mine. I know I have to react and begin to try to shrimp by moving my hips and legs to my right to try and escape, knowing that this is a very serious position to be in.
Yoshihiro_Mori: I see you moving your legs to try and shrimp out from under me, but I am in no way, shape, or form going to let you do that. Using my left arm and head, I collect your right arm and press it down into your neck with my right cheek. Then, with my right arm, I reach down from under your head upwards as I send my left hand out trying to lock with it to secure an arm triangle choke on you. While at the same time I kick my legs out behind me to keep my body low and heavy, to prevent you from rolling out to your right.
Juan_Reyes: I’m breathing hard after that slam, and struggling to shrimp out from under your side control, but you take hold of my right wrist and pin it into my neck, and use your right cheek to hold it there, as you do this, I tuck in my chin, protecting my neck somewhat, just as your right slips under my neck. I know what’s coming next! That left hand comes across to try to lock with your right, so I bring my left forearm up to parry your left away, at least for the moment. I also drive my left forearm back into your jaw and neck, creating a rigid frame to stop you from settling comfortably on me. It’s a really tough position to me to be in, especially as you spread your legs to stabilize your base.
Yoshihiro_Mori: The moment I feel your left arm frame on my neck is the moment I knew I lost the choke on your neck. I knew I had to switch it up. Instead of fighting you further for your neck, I snap my left arm up to snag your left wrist and try to pin it down next to your ear. At the same time, I push off on my right foot to swing my left high over your body, both as a distraction and to attempt to get into a mount. And pulling my right hand out slightly from under your head, I instead attempt to latch on to my left forearm to complete the americana on your left arm.
Juan_Reyes: From your vantage point, there are many more opportunities. I'm expecting you to continue to struggle to lock on the choke, but instead you make a surprise move, that I don't anticipate. You lock on the Americana, a a sickening, deep grind erupts in my left shoulder as you crank my wrist toward my head. It’s not a sharp cut, but a slow, mechanical tearing deep inside the joint, like a rusted wrench turning in my socket. The pain radiates down my bicep, and a cold, tingling numbness floods my fingers. My brain screams in absolute panic, I fell my shoulder is seconds away from popping out of its socket. The fight drains out of me, replaced by the primal, humiliating certainty that if I don't tap right now, my arm is going to break. I grit my teeth, and try to use my hips to buck away.
Yoshihiro_Mori: I feel you squirming under me and your hips attempting to buck. But with my full mount secured on top of you, your bucking only gave me a further opportunity to secure my position as I extended my longer legs down and under your bucking hips and vine in against your legs, forcing your feet up from the mats and preventing you from bucking again. Then, with a big grin on my face, I start to really crank down on your left shoulder, rotating it well past it's usuall range of motion as I look to rip it out of it's socket since you're not willing to tap.
Juan_Reyes: You have me, I'm just too fucking slow and too fucking stubborn to admit it. But I should have tapped. I should have tapped. Suddenly you increase the pressure....the crank is unbearble on my shoulder, and you vine my legs so I can't buck....the crowd is roaring, louder and loader.....and then it happens, the ball of my humerus pops out of its socket....the pain is unbelievable as it rips through my shoulder, my arm, and I nearly pass out....I can't tap, so I try to say submit....but only air comes out of my mouth....a couple of seconds pass....i feel woozy....and then it comes out of my lips....submit....
Yoshihiro_Mori: I feel your shoulder snap in my grasp and your humerus pop out of its socket. But I still don't hear a sound or even feel you tap. So keeping my grip on your popped-out arm, I start to yank your dislocated arm out further from your body and twist it even more to add more pressure onto your nerves. Then after a few more seconds, I finally hear you submitting quietly. I turn and look down at you, giving you the I didn't hear you look, but I let go of your left arm. Instead, I move towards your right arm, intending to rinse and repeat if you don't tap and/or submit properly for the ref to see.
Juan_Reyes: The ref does not hear my submit....and my left arm is now useless.....this motherfucker ripped the shoulder ball out of its socket! I'm in a state of shock, pain, and utter humiliation. He's moving towards my right arm and is not gonna stop. The crowd is absolutely animated by his display of BJJ and roaring even louder and louder. I move and twist my body, and reach out with my good arm, my right arm, and begin to frantically tap on your hip. My body is slick with sweat, dark hair matted and glued to my scalp, as I beg for mercy by frantically tapping your hip.....
Yoshihiro_Mori: Both me and the ref sees and feel your tap this time, and I'm quickly shooed off of you as the medical personnel comes in. Raising my fists up, I take a nice victory lap around the cage as I relish my hard-fought victory. To be honest, I never thought I could be outmaneuvered in striking, and the thought of myself securing a win with my Judo and BJJ training from friends is even more outlandish. But if the results of this match have taught me anything, it's that maybe it's time for me to become a more balanced and well-rounded fighter. I look down at you as the medical staff tends to you and bows before heading out of the cage.
Juan_Reyes: Ring Announcer: "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! Please direct your attention to the center of the cage! After a grueling display of striking, grappling, and sheer will, we have a winner by SUBMISSION! He came in with the precision of a surgeon and the heart of a warrior, proving that size isn't everything when technique is this sharp. He weathered the storm, capitalized on the opening, and forced a brutal end to the contest! Please welcome your victor... standing at 6 feet tall, weighing in at 176 pounds... from Tokyo, Japan... YOSHIHIRO MORI!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Yoshihiro_Mori: As I headed out of the cage, I made another lap around the cage, shaking hands with the fans in attendance and waving in my victory before heading out through the aisle back to the locker rooms. rubbing my still aching solar plexus as I headed out with a smile.
