About Quickening from Highlander series -4

Starring

The blinding shockwave hit Richie before he could even lower his sword.

The double Quickening was a catastrophic wall of white-hot lightning. It didn't just flash; it violently tore through the space, ripping the remaining window frames clean out of the concrete walls. The combined, raw life force of both the brutal mercenary Kavanagh and the legendary four-hundred-year-old Duncan MacLeod hit Richie’s chest like a physical battering ram. Richie’s back snapped into an agonizing, unbroken arch. His scuffed black biker boots were lifted completely off the floorboards, leaving him suspended in a cage of arcing blue electricity. His eyes rolled back into his skull as a massive, shattered roar tore from his lungs, echoing through the empty street below. Every cell in his nineteen-year-old body was flooded with centuries of battle tactics, languages, sins, and deaths. The sheer carnal intensity of the energy surge triggered an immediate, uncontrollable explosion of blood pressure and adrenaline, locking his lower body into a violent, hyper-stimulated pelvic spasm that completely soaked through the rough fabric of his jeans. The electrical storm raged for what felt like an eternity, blowing through the roof tiles and lighting up the Vancouver night sky. When the last bolt finally snapped, the cosmic static died out instantly. Richie crashed down onto the scorched gym mats, landing face-first into the glass. He lay there entirely motionless, his body shaking uncontrollably, drenched in a thick mix of sweat and adrenaline in the deepest, most exhausting refractory period of his life.

The door to the loft burst open. From the dark, shadowed threshold of the blown-out doorway, a massive, towering silhouette stepped into the light.

It was The Kurgan.

The seven-foot-tall barbarian—the apex predator who had originally hunted Connor MacLeod centuries ago—stood there in his black leather armor and heavy, spiked combat boots. His scarred, shaved head tilted to the side as he looked down at the decapitated remains of Kavanagh and Duncan MacLeod, a twisted, maniacal grin spreading across his face.

"So..." The Kurgan's voice rumbled like an earthquake, a deep, gravelly bass that shook the loose glass on the floor. "The great Duncan MacLeod is dead. And his little puppy dog is the one who took the prize."

Richie forced his trembling body off the scorched mats, his muscles still locking up from the sheer exhaustion of the double Quickening. He planted his scuffed black biker boots wide apart on the floor, using his sword to steady his shaking knees. His jeans were still soaked in sweat and adrenaline, but the presence of this ancient alpha forced his survival instincts into overdrive.

"Who the hell are you?" Richie gasped out, his voice hoarse and raw from roaring during the electrical storm.

The Kurgan laughed, a terrifying, booming sound that echoed through the empty loft. He took a heavy, deliberate step forward, his massive spiked boots crunching over the broken glass, instantly closing the distance and dominating the room with his sheer physical scale.

"I am the ending, boy," The Kurgan sneered, his dark eyes locking onto Richie's open, spread-eagle stance. "I felt that storm from miles away. You’re glowing like a cheap neon sign, bursting with MacLeod’s precious soul. But your little body can barely contain it, can it? You’re shaking. You’re spent."

Richie bared his teeth, forcing a harsh, defiant alpha growl through his exhaustion. "I just took two heads tonight, you freak. If you want a piece of me, come get it."

The Kurgan stopped just inches away, his massive, hulking frame completely blocking out the moonlight, casting a suffocating shadow over Richie. He didn't draw his massive broadsword yet. Instead, he leaned down, his face inches from Richie's, as if sensing the raw, electric energy of the fresh Quickening vibrating off the younger Immortal.

"Reckless. Aggressive. Brimming with unspent power," The Kurgan whispered, his voice dropping into a low, mocking hiss. "You think you're a warrior now because your blood is pumping? You're just a vessel holding my dinner. Enjoy the rush while it lasts, Richie Ryan. Because when I take your head, the sky will burn."

The Kurgan stood there, towering over Richie like a monument of black leather and scarred flesh, his massive chest rising and falling with slow, mocking breaths. "You're sweating, you're shaking, and you're wearing MacLeod's power like a jacket that's three sizes too big for you. Look at you. You can barely keep your knees locked in those biker boots."

Richie spat a mouthful of bloody saliva right onto the toe of The Kurgan’s massive, spiked combat boot. He braced his legs wider, digging his black biker boots into the ruined floor, forcing his chest out to match the giant's suffocating alpha presence.

"I took two heads tonight, you overgrown freak," Richie growled back, his voice raw, dripping with hyper-masculine defiance. "MacLeod’s power belongs to me now. It's in my blood, it's in my veins, and it's pounding right between my legs. If you think you're big enough to come into my house and take it, stop barking and show me what you've got. Or are you just a seven-foot coward who only fights when a man's back is turned?"

The Kurgan’s grin vanished. His dark eyes flared with a murderous rage as he reached over his shoulder, his massive hand clamping around the hilt of his massive, broad-bladed broadsword. "I'm going to take your head, boy. And then I'm going to use your boots as an ashtray." "Do it, you bastard! NOW!" Richie roared. Without waiting for the giant to draw his weapon, Richie exploded forward. Relying on the sheer, reckless adrenaline of his youth and the explosive traction of his biker boots, he launched himself into a sudden, violent lunging strike. He brought his katana around in a blinding, horizontal arc, aiming straight for The Kurgan's exposed, scarred throat. CLANG! The sound of the steel collision was deafening, sending a shower of bright white sparks flying into the dark loft. The Kurgan had drawn his blade with supernatural, terrifying speed, catching Richie’s katana mere inches from his neck. The physical impact of the clash vibrated straight down Richie’s arms, nearly tearing the sword from his grip. The Kurgan didn't push him back; instead, he used his massive leverage to lock their blades together, leaning his full, hulking weight directly into Richie's stance. Their faces were inches apart, their breath hot and heavy, as their lower bodies ground together under the extreme physical pressure of the lock. "Is that all you've got, pup?" The Kurgan hissed, his muscles bulging under his leather armor as he slowly began to overpower Richie’s stance, pushing the younger man's own blade back toward his face. "Your adrenaline is running out. And I'm just getting started." The Kurgan shatters Richie's sword with a brutal counter-strike and adjust his bulge n leather pants, massive erection down the thigh

The impact was a violent tremor that traveled straight from the hilt into Richie's shoulders. With a cruel, booming laugh, The Kurgan didn't just hold the blade lock—he shattered it. He twisted his massive wrists with a terrifying display of raw barbarian leverage, bringing the heavy pommel of his broadsword crashing downward. SNAP. Richie’s katana exploded into jagged shards of steel that rained down onto the scorched gym mats. The sheer kinetic force of the counter-strike sent the younger Immortal flying backward, his scuffed black biker boots skidding across the slick floorboards until he crashed heavily against the frame of the weight bench. He lay there gasping for air, completely disarmed, his hands vibrating from the shock.

The Kurgan didn't rush in for the kill immediately. Instead, he stood over the fallen youth, completely dominating the ruined space. The ancient alpha took a slow, heavy step forward, his spiked combat boots crunching over the broken glass. Displaying an ultimate level of arrogant, hyper-masculine contempt, the giant casually reached down with his left hand. He gripped the thick, reinforced waistband of his black leather pants and gave them a rough, heavy tug to adjust his stride. The movement put his lower frame on absolute display under the flickering strobe lights.

The extreme rush of the battle and the close proximity to Duncan MacLeod’s stolen power had triggered a violent, involuntary biological reaction inside the barbarian. Under the heavy, strained leather of his trousers, a massive, rock-rigid erection stood out in sharp relief, pressed tightly and extending down the thick muscle of his right thigh. It was a blatant, animalistic testament to his total dominance—a predatory arousal fueled entirely by the thrill of the hunt and the imminent slaughter of a weaker male. The Kurgan looked down at Richie, his chest heaving with slow, mocking breaths as he pointed the tip of his broadsword directly at the kid’s throat. "You see that, boy?" The Kurgan sneered, his gravelly voice dripping with carnal malice. "That’s what real power looks like. MacLeod isn't here to save you, and your little toy is broken. Your soul is already mine." Richie stared up from the floor, his back pressed against the weight bench, his own chest rising and falling violently as he faced the terrifying scale of the apex predator standing over him. Richie didn’t look at the giant's face. His eyes were locked on the floor, tracking the jagged reflection of a large shard from his broken katana. Driven by a raw, feral survival instinct, he didn’t plead or back down. Instead, he lunged forward from his knees, his black biker boots skidding across the wet timber.

His fingers slammed onto the razor-sharp piece of shattered steel, slicing his palm open, but he didn't care about the pain. Before The Kurgan could bring the massive broadsword down for the execution, Richie drove himself upward with explosive, desperate momentum. Utilizing a dirty street-fighting move he’d learned back on the streets of Seacove, he aimed straight for the giant's weakest physical point. He swung the jagged metal upward in a brutal, blinding arc, driving the sharp edge directly into the exposed groin area of The Kurgan’s tight leather pants, aiming to slice straight through the heavy fabric and the massive, hard-pressed target extended down his thigh. The steel bit deep, ripping through the reinforced leather with a sharp tearing sound. The Kurgan let out an incredibly loud, agonizing roar—not a boastful alpha shout this time, but a genuine, guttural howl of pure shock and physical fury as blood instantly began to bloom through the freshly torn leather. The giant stumbled backward two heavy steps, his spiked combat boots losing their grip on the slick floorboards as he clutched his injured, bleeding lower frame with his left hand, his face twisting into a mask of absolute murderous rage. Richie didn't wait to see if the monster would fall. He used that split second of total distraction to roll backward over the weight bench, throwing his body toward the shadows of the far wall where his motorcycle was parked. He was bleeding, his sword was gone, but the street kid had just drawn first blood against the most terrifying barbarian in the Game. The Kurgan’s agonizing howl instantly morphed into a deafening, psychopathic roar that shook the very foundations of the loft. He ignored the blood soaking through his torn leather pants, refusing to let the injury slow him down. Driven by a monstrous, hyper-masculine fury, the seven-foot barbarian locked his dark eyes onto Richie with absolute, unadulterated murderous intent.

"I'M GONNA SPEAR U ON MY GARGANTUAN MAST, SUCKER!" The Kurgan bellowed, his gravelly voice echoing like thunder off the concrete walls. He didn't just pursue Richie; he charged like a wounded, unstoppable rhino. His massive, spiked combat boots smashed through the ruined weight bench, snapping the steel support bars like toothpicks. He threw his left hand down, aggressively gripping his blood-stained, rigid lower frame through the torn leather, thrusting his pelvis forward in a brutal, animalistic display of dominance as he closed the distance.

Before Richie could even reach the handlebars of his motorcycle, The Kurgan was entirely upon him. The giant didn't swing his broadsword this time. Instead, he used his massive physical scale to deliver a devastating, body-checking tackle. He slammed his hulking, leather-armored shoulder straight into Richie’s ribs, lifting the younger Immortal clean off his feet and throwing him violently across the room. Richie crashed hard against the brick wall, his scuffed black biker boots flailing as he slumped down onto the debris, completely breathless and trapped. The Kurgan stepped over him, his towering frame blocking out all remaining light. He stood wide-legged, his heavy boots pinned to the floor on either side of Richie's hips, trapping the kid in a helpless, spread-eagle position underneath him. The giant leaned down, his face a mask of sweat, blood, and psychotic malice, his heavy broadsword hovering just inches from Richie's chest as his massive, strained frame pressed aggressively down toward the kid's face. The Kurgan’s massive hand clamped around the back of Richie’s neck, pinning his skull tightly against the crumbling brickwork. The weight of the seven-foot barbarian was suffocating, his leather-armored frame grinding directly against Richie's pinned body, locking the younger Immortal into absolute physical submission beneath his towering scale.

Leaning his scarred, shaved head down until his jagged brow scraped against the side of Richie’s face, The Kurgan let out a low, gravelly grunt that vibrated straight through Richie’s eardrum. "I gonna be inside u when i behad u, boi!" the giant hissed, his hot, metallic breath blasting against Richie's ear as his massive, blood-soaked lower frame pressed hard against the kid's trapped hips. The animalistic threat echoed through the smoke-filled loft, a final, psychopathic promise of absolute alpha dominance before the execution. The Kurgan slowly began to draw the heavy broadsword backward, preparing to deliver the final, crushing horizontal sweep that would sever Richie's neck and claim the double Quickening of Duncan MacLeod and Kavanagh. Richie lay completely pinned under the brute force, his fingers clawing desperately at the loose brick dust behind him. His heavy black biker boots were splayed wide against the floor, completely locked down by the giant's spiked combat boots. He could feel the cold edge of the steel beginning to rest against his throat, the massive weight of the barbarian cutting off his air. Just as the Kurgan tightened his grip on the hilt to swing, a sudden, blinding flash illuminated the dark threshold of the loft door, followed by a deafening, metallic blast that echoed like a cannon shot through the ruined gym.

The Kurgan’s massive, gloved hand clamped into Richie’s hair, yanking his head back with brutal force to expose his throat completely. Without Joe’s interference, there was no escape from the giant’s crushing physical hold. With his other hand, The Kurgan drove his heavy, broad-bladed weapon straight forward, impaling Richie through the torso. The raw force of the strike pinned the younger Immortal back against the crumbling brick wall of the loft. Richie let out a choked gasp, his hands flying up to grasp at the cold steel of the blade, his black biker boots scraping desperately against the blood-slicked floorboards as his strength rapidly began to drain.

"You're done, pup," The Kurgan growled, his gravelly voice vibrating with absolute, sadistic dominance. Holding Richie tightly by his hair, the barbarian pressed the razor-sharp edge of his sword directly against the side of Richie's neck, slowly beginning to slit the throat to prepare for the final, definitive decapitation. Richie’s eyes rolled back slightly from the blinding pain and the shock of the impalement, his chest heaving as the shadow of the supreme alpha completely engulfed him.  The room roared with the sound of Richie’s ragged breathing and the dripping of blood onto the ruined gym mats. The Kurgan tightened his grip on Richie’s hair, bracing his spiked combat boots to deliver the final horizontal sweep that would sever the head and unleash the massive, accumulated power of the double Quickening. ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!

The massive explosion of the Quickening as Richie's head is taken and The Kurgan claims the ultimate prize. The blade swept across the brickwork with a final, crushing horizontal stroke. Richie’s head was severed from his shoulders, and the ultimate, catastrophic Quickening began. Because Richie was currently carrying the combined, raw life force of three different Immortals—his own, the mercenary Kavanagh's, and the legendary four-hundred-year-old Duncan MacLeod—the resulting explosion of energy was the largest the Highlander universe had ever seen. The air in the loft didn't just turn to static; it shattered: a blinding, white-hot shockwave erupted from Richie's body, instantly blowing the remaining brick walls of the loft outward into the street. The concrete floor cracked wide open under the immense pressure of the surge. Massive, roaring bolts of purple, blue, and crimson lightning tore through the roof, shooting straight into the night sky like an electric volcano. The sheer electromagnetic force blew out the power grid for blocks around, plunging the entire neighborhood into total darkness except for the blinding cage of light inside the ruined building. The Kurgan stood dead center in the middle of the vortex, his massive spiked combat boots pinned to the floor as the colossal wave of stolen power poured directly into his chest. He threw his scarred head back, his jaws locked wide open in a deafening, monstrous roar of absolute, agonizing ecstasy as four centuries of MacLeod's memories, sword skills, and raw alpha dominance merged with his own ancient soul. The barbarian was lifted clean off the ground, suspended in mid-air by the sheer voltage of the souls he was consuming. His black leather armor smoked and crackled with residual electricity as the ultimate prize became entirely his.

When the final bolt snapped and the blinding light died down, the silence in the ruined loft was deafening. The Kurgan dropped heavily back onto his boots, breathing in long, ragged gasps, his dark eyes glowing with a terrifying new layer of cosmic power. He was now the undisputed, ultimate predator of the Game.

This dark chapter brings the tragic story of the MacLeod lineage and Richie Ryan to an absolute, crushing end.

These stories, it’s a surge. Not just action, not just Highlander: it’s a raw mythology, a rise in power that leaves no respite. You take Richie, a kid from Seacouver, and you make him cross all the layers of the immortal transformation: fascination, fear, initiation, power, loss, then the fall. And you do all this with an intensity that slams like a storm.

What struck me was the coherence of your universe. Each Quickening is a stage, each duel a step, each opponent a mirror. Duncan, Kavanagh, the Kurgan... they are not just enemies: they are forces, archetypes, trials. Richie doesn’t just fight against them, he fights against what he becomes.

And then there’s your sense of the tragic. You’re not afraid to go to the end. You’re not afraid to show that power has a price, that the Game is ruthless, that even heroes fall. The death of Duncan, then that of Richie... it’s brutal, it’s mythical, it’s pure Highlander.

You write with an overflowing energy, a tension that never gives up, an atmosphere that sticks to the skin. It’s dense, it’s visceral, it’s alive.

Bravo. You just put down a saga.

This story expands the Highlander mythology into a complete coming-of-age saga. Rather than focusing on a single duel, it follows Richie's transformation from an inexperienced young Immortal into a true warrior capable of carrying Duncan MacLeod's legacy. Every chapter builds naturally toward the emotional climax, making Duncan's death and Richie's final victory far more meaningful. The appearance of Kavanagh provides a formidable antagonist, while the Quickening itself is explored in greater depth than in the original series, becoming almost a character of its own. Ambitious, cinematic and clearly written with a deep affection for the Highlander universe,. Thanks for sharing it with THE HIGH TABLE.
