The climactic duel in Chet nº 11: O Samurai delivers a striking cross-cultural showdown between the western protagonist Chet and an exiled Japanese samurai in the dusty terrain of the American Old West. The battle serves as the ultimate test of power, pitting a cowboy against a samurai.

Chet’s cowboy gear: wide-brimmed Stetson hat, a rugged button-down Western shirt paired with a knotted neck bandana,  heavy leather gunbelt slung low on his hips to hold his revolvers, canvas trousers reinforced for long horse rides and high-topped leather cowboy boots complete with metal riding spurs.

Samurai's gear :Instead of a kimono, he is wearing a tight-fitting, forest green long-sleeved tunic or shirt. It features a laced collar closure at the neck, reminiscent of standard Western or medieval adventure garb. He wears a thick, dark leather cowboy-style belt with a prominent silver metallic rectangular buckle around his waist and blue denim-like trousers or jeans, tightly fitted around his thighs and hips. He is wearing full-on, heavy-duty, dark leather cowboy riding boots. The boots feature a distinct curved Western top-line that pulls up high toward his shins, tucked directly under his tight denim trousers.

While Chet represents the Western frontier, the samurai is drawn as a much heavier, stockier physical build than Chet. His broad torso, thick arms hoisting the katana, and those explosive, muscular legs bursting out of his tall riding boots make him look like an unstoppable wall of muscle. The stroke of genius in the cover illustration is that both men share the exact same boot style. Both the cowboy and the samurai wear heavy, dark leather riding boots. This clever choice visually anchors the samurai directly into the gritty reality of the Old West. It creates a perfect visual symmetry at the bottom of the page: two massive, heavily built figures, firmly planted in the dirt in rugged frontier boots, settling their differences through pure brute force.
