Life in the Correctory

Starring
The Lord Corrector Commissions an Epic

The Tragic Fall of the Kingdom of Kuluz

<Blockbuster> "Ox, read to us what your brother has been working on."

Erynd's Notebook:
My country returned to me in Roland's voice.

Instruction:
Roland is to advise on accuracy of the account.

The Conjurer's Visit

<Blockbuster> "Tell Lord Oryn what the weight has taught you."

12:18 Roland: "To stand, my lord."
The Conjurer smiled.

<Blockbuster> One does not fight the branch. One teaches it where to grow.

<Oryn_of_Vaelkor> Quiet, brother. Here comes your clipped maple with more wine.

Before the Fall
It was Oryn who had been Roland's prisoner.

12:20 Roland: "I ask your forgiveness, my lord."

12:21 Oryn_of_Vaelkor: “For taking me prisoner?”
12:21 Roland: “For imagining I had.”

12:21 Oryn_of_Vaelkor: “His burden, gentlemen, was the belief that he was warrior, knight, and man.”

12:22 Oryn_of_Vaelkor: “Now the stone is down. Tell them what remains.”

12:22 Roland: “A gelded Ox, my lords.”

The Corrector at War

With his lord away on a campaign of conquest, the Ox was seconded to Lord Oryn's household.

The Conjurer found the Ox useful.

Erynd's usefulness lay elsewhere.

He was made to go where the Ox could not follow.

Experiments did not always proceed as intended.

The Ox restored what could be restored.

12:25 Erynd: “So I survived.”
12:25 Roland: “Apparently.”

The Corrector Returns

Erynd’s Notebook:
I had not known how greatly I had missed him.

12:27 Erynd: “My lord, I understand now why Kuluz could not stand against you.”
<Blockbuster> “Then my absence was not wasted.”

12:27 Oryn_of_Vaelkor: “Your Ox knows his place. Better still, he knows what to do from it.”
<Blockbuster>  “He generally does.”

Erynd’s Notebook:
The brothers spoke as if no time had passed.

12:29 Oryn_of_Vaelkor: “You have come back intolerably pleased with yourself.”
<Blockbuster>  “Victory does have its vulgar effects.”

:

Thus the household was restored.
There was, however, business to attend to.

<Blockbuster>  "Show me!"

<Blockbuster> “This man was under your command.”
12:31 Roland: "Yes, my lord.”
<Blockbuster>  “In defense of what?”
12:31 Roland: “An error.”

The History Progresses

<Blockbuster>  “And how does Kuluz fall now?”
12:32 Erynd: “More justly than when I began, my lord.”

The epic:
There were no men in Kuluz. There were princes, warriors, and errors
wearing the shapes of men. Defeat merely corrected the names.

12:34 Oryn_of_Vaelkor: “He has become severe.”
<Blockbuster>  “He has become accurate.”

The Baths

12:35 Oryn_of_Vaelkor: “Come. We will wash off the dust of care.”

Erynd’s Notebook:
We laughed.

12:37 Oryn_of_Vaelkor: “They look younger.”
<Blockbuster>  “They have nothing to decide.”

A chilling and beautifully controlled glimpse into life inside the Correctory. The Correctory is Lord Domyrek’s imperial domain, a prison, training ground and institution where defeated enemies are “corrected” and reshaped for service.
The sharp dialogue, Erynd’s private reflections and the unsettling intimacy between masters and captives reveal an entire world without overexplaining it. Every short exchange carries history, hierarchy and menace. Thank you, Erynd, Roland, Oryn of Vaelkor and Blockbuster, for publishing this remarkable Black Sun chronicle in THE HIGH TABLE!

(In reply to this)

Thank you, gentle reader. Control is the heart of just rule. Experiment is the road by which we discover what men are capable of. Discernment and governance are not gifts one simply possesses; they are faculties to be tested, refined, and rightly employed...
