The Phantom—also referred to as Erik—is the masked dweller of the subterranean labyrinth beneath the Opera House. He is a polymath whose talents span music, architecture, and illusion, yet he is defined by the profound isolation caused by his facial disfigurement, which he covers with a mask.

A musical genius and self-appointed “Angel of Music”, The Phantom resides in a candlelit lair accessible only by the dark waters of the Opera House’s lowest cellars. His mask hides a face described as a "death’s head," skeletal and gaunt, which has fueled his lifelong resentment of a society that prizes physical beauty.
